GM Honors Global Suppliers for Innovation, Quality, and Performance

DETROIT — General Motors recognized 133 of its best suppliers from around the globe during its 27th annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony in Warren, Michigan. More than half of the suppliers are repeat winners from 2018.

Automotive suppliers from 15 countries received GM’s coveted Supplier of the Year award for going above and beyond GM’s requirements, providing customers with the most innovative technologies and delivering quality vehicles.

“We hold our suppliers to a high bar,” said Steve Kiefer, GM senior vice president, Global Purchasing and Supply Chain. “They went above and beyond to deliver the innovations and quality that will help us earn customers for life.”

In addition to naming its top suppliers, GM recognized four suppliers with the distinctive Innovation Award, including:

Multimatic – produced the GMC Multipro Tailgate step assembly, which allows for easier entry and egress to the truck bed when deployed and stylishly integrates into the tailgate assembly when stored.
Teijin / Continental Structural Plastics – executed the GMC Sierra’s CarbonPro pickup box. The industry’s first carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic pickup box saves 62 pounds of mass and provides unprecedented strength and durability.
Innolux – developed an innovative approach to mask reflectivity in touch panel displays, creating a uniform solid black appearance when power is off.
BorgWarner, Inc. – created the dual volute turbocharger used in the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. This new turbocharger delivers best-in-class response time when the vehicle is accelerating from low speed.
GM also honored four companies — Lear, Penske, Shiloh and Stanadyne — with its Overdrive Award. The award, first given in 2012, recognizes supply partners for extraordinary leadership in cultural change and commitment initiatives that drive exceptional business results for GM.
The Supplier of the Year, Overdrive and Innovation award winners were chosen by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives. Winners were selected based on performance criteria in Product Purchasing, Global Purchasing and Manufacturing Services, Customer Care and Aftersales, and Logistics.
