Mechanical Design

Belcan’s design/drafting group has the capabilities of successfully handling the three progressions of product design: Conceptual, Preliminary, and Detail. During the Conceptual Design Phase, our designers will generate, document, and present multiple concepts to the customer for acceptance. The Preliminary Design Phase incorporates customer suggestions into a selected concept and then refines that concept into a fully functional and producible working design. The Detail Design Phase incorporates final suggestions from all involved parties (customer, engineering, and analysis). Then, the design is transformed into fully associative (to parameterized solid models) and producible manufacturing detail drawings that are sent to selected vendors for procurement. As mentioned above, the Belcan design group is there to support the design of your product along every step of the production cycle.

The customer can rest assured knowing that fully parametric models will be created along every step of the design process. Parameters are incorporated into the beginning stages of model creation to ensure that design changes incurred along the three phases are incorporated in a timely manner.

Belcan has the full capacity to handle SLA Model generation from any type of model created. The resultant stereo lithography (.stl) file can be set to any customer specified parameters. Send us your model, or we will create the model for you. Either way, we can handle all of your SLA Model (.stl file generation) needs.

State of the art CAD software and full motion 3D graphics are a couple tools used by designers at Belcan to satisfy a growing complexity of customer requests. The use of these tools in presentations gives the customer a better understanding of how their product will function in a real-time environment. These tools are an invaluable asset in making the customer more comfortable in knowing they will get a fully functional and producible product design.

Tool and Fixture Design

The Support Equipment and Tooling Group of Belcan has over 10 years of experience in engineering, analysis, design, drafting, fabrication, fabrication support, fit and function, and project management of all aspects of support equipment, tooling, and fixtures. This experience encompasses specialized equipment used for the assembly, dis-assembly, transportation, inspection, manufacturing, and field support of aircraft and industrial power system engines. The Support Equipment and Tooling Department has long running relationships with major corporations such as General Electric Aircraft Engines, General Motors-Electro-Motive, and industrial turbine manufacturers such as Dresser-Rand and General Electric-Power Systems.

Oil & Gas Industrial Components

The Oil and Gas Design Group at Belcan is extensively involved in a multi-year program providing design/drafting support to the off-shore drilling industry. Belcan’s team of quality personnel excel at conforming to industry standards and specifications, creating new and cost effective designs and interfacing with customers to meet demanding schedules and project deadlines.

Packaging, Installations Design and Cost Reductions

The Packaging Group at Belcan has gained extensive knowledge of Gas Turbine Skids and Enclosures and Air and Fuel Delivery Systems through multiple programs requiring complicated design parameters. Such projects involved re-design of existing enclosures for cost reduction, new designs for additional customer requirements, and drafting only programs to record customer-specified changes.

Automotive Design

Long-term projects in the Industrial and Military Automotive areas have given Belcan’s team of experienced designers and drafts-persons invaluable experience in both sheet metal and structural design. Constant customer interface and conformance to industry and military standards are part of the requirements our designers conform to and excel at.

Marine Products Design

Another example of diversified programs in which the Belcan design team are capable of successfully handling include projects in the Marine Industry. Hull design improvements, modifications due to strengthening, or stiffening requirements through revised lamination techniques are examples of Belcan’s “full service” design capabilities.

Aero Design

Airframe and Nacelle design, modifications and retro-fits; Engine Mount design studies, modifications, and new product concepts; and Composite Structure design studies are all part of the diversified portfolio of design capabilities here at Belcan. Our experienced designers and modelers can handle the most complex 3D-surfacing design tasks related to Airframe and Nacelle design. We also have an extensive project history in the cost and weight reduction areas for Engine Mount Hardware. Part of our weight reduction project history also involves the use of Composite Structures in certain areas (i.e. wing mounted fuel tanks) of Airframe design.

Plant Layout & Test Facility

Large-scale and long-term projects in the Test Facility and Plant Layout Design areas have long been a staple here at Belcan. Our group of seasoned designers have consistently shown the ability to work with an extensive list of sub-contractors from the structural, electrical, and civil engineering fields to ensure that the customers facility design needs are met. The diversity of Test Facility and Plant Layout Design projects that Belcan designers have successfully completed ensure that no project is too large for Belcan.

Small Scale Test Rig Design

While no Test Facility Design may be too big for Belcan, no single Test Rig request is too small either. Belcan also has an extensive history in the design of Small Scale Test Rigs. Test Rigs range from actuation hardware testing and component stress testing to new product prototype testing. Belcan will work with the customer to design cost-effective and fully-functional Small Scale Test Rigs for whatever situation the product demands.
