Power Systems

Belcan has delivered industrial control designs for manufacturing, land-based turbine generation systems. A wide range of engineering support has been provided for applications such as paper product industry, consumer product manufacturing, nuclear power systems, wind turbine power, and control systems.

In the area of aircraft power systems, Belcan has provided system conceptual and architecture studies, evaluating a multitude of aircraft-mounted systems. Trade studies have addressed current and future aircraft power requirements, and have included mission analysis, failure modes, and their impact on compliant aircraft operation, and dispatch. The system evaluation processes can be applied to a wide range of civil and military aircraft, as well as marine and land vehicles. In conjunction with air vehicle system modeling, conceptual designs can be matured through preliminary and detailed design while monitoring of vehicle wide impacts of power system configuration.

Belcan can support system and vehicle design by addressing thermal management challenges at the architectural stage of development. Such systems can be tailored to minimize heat rejection at key operating conditions and integrated with thermal management systems that comprise electrical, mechanical, and fluid power generation, power conditioning, and load management. Electrical and fluid systems can be concurrently designed to optimize use of available heat sinks and the most efficient power sources.

At the component level, Belcan has performed mechanical and thermal analyses of complex electric power generators, and is supporting electro-mechanical design of these machines. Capabilities extend to evaluating steady-state and transient thermal behavior, including plastic deformation, capability to withstand vibration and shock, modal analysis, mechanical design for the drive train elements, and integration into plant and vehicle lubrication cooling systems. Belcan has capabilities to support bench and rig test support and analysis validation, qualification test planning and report generation, and reliability and maintainability design and analysis for a wide range of equipment installed in higher-level power systems.
