The Specialty Equipment Engineering Division of Belcan is a leader in the field of machine design, industrial controls and factory automation. Machines engineered by our team have been repeatedly shown as examples of clients' advanced manufacturing capability. Belcan-SEED has expertise in designing and developing a wide variety of processes such as high speed automated parts assembly, material handling systems, glass forming and handling, small wire forming and feeding, gas combustion systems, high purity vacuum systems, rare gas systems, welding, vision systems, robotics, and the assembly and packaging of medical devices and disposables.

Technology Independent Concepts / Designs

Belcan-SEED takes a technology neutral approach to applications. This means that our engineers are not intent on forcing our client's applications toward a pre-existing automation platform. We are not formally associated with specific technologies or product brands. This independence gives our team the latitude to develop solutions based on the best interests of our clients. The Belcan-SEED team's extensive experiences across many industries and technologies provides a strong base for creative and innovative concept development.  By starting with a complete definition of the system requirements, we can determine the optimum technology match to best meet our client's demanding applications.

Automation & Control

Belcan-SEED's mechanical capabilities are enhanced by the skills of the electrical engineers and designers that comprise its controls group. This combination uniquely enables Belcan-SEED to provide our clients with a superior in-depth knowledge of equipment and control expertise. Belcan-SEED has worked with a wide range of programmable logic controllers (PLC) and PC based controls. Belcan-SEED has engineered a variety of applications that include the use of variable speed AC and DC drives, servo and stepper motor technology, vision systems, robotics, microprocessor systems, industrial communication networks, and human machine interface for the factory floor.

Fabrication Profile

The Belcan-SEED facility contains a full machine development shop and a high bay equipment assembly and test floor. This is where machines and control systems are assembled and tested to meet the client's requirements prior to shipping. The highly skilled shop staff includes mechanical technicians, electrical technicians and electronics technicians. They are supported by a purchasing department. The shop staff's extensive experience in parts machining, mechanical assembly, machine control wiring, instrumentation fabrication, personal computer applications, and system debugging round out a system of personnel resources that is both flexible and responsive to clients needs.

Business Factors

Belcan is comfortable with various methods of contractual relationships including consulting, design, and turnkey design and build.

We also are flexible in the various methods required by clients for pricing. Fixed price, T&M, target pricing, cost plus fixed fee, incentive, etc. are all methods with which we have experience.

Secrecy Agreements are executed for a high percentage of our clients and are used where appropriate. We have a controlled access facility and can provide restricted design and assembly areas if required.

Innovation & Creativity

Belcan-SEED has been successful in developing automated systems which perform in reactive and hazardous liquids and gases. We have also provided a high degree of innovation and creativity in the pharmaceutical and medical industries to improve the manufacturability of products and to make significant productivity increases to mature products. We have extensive experience in making products where contamination must be less than a few parts per million.

Proprietary Projects

Much of the work that Belcan-SEED performs is for new products of a highly proprietary nature. It is common for us to be significantly involved in product design to improve its manufacturability and to improve its performance.
