Medical Bed FMEA Analysis

Belcan was asked to determine the failure cause of the bed foot support on some beds being out of specification.

The bed system was studied and a FMEA of all the components of the bed was completed. From this FMEA it was determined that the only component that could be causing the failure was the accumulator. The accumulator design and specifications was reviewed. It was determined that although the design tolerances of the accumulator were in specification, a tolerance at the high end of the specification was enough to allow the hydraulic leakage rate of the bed foot support to be out of specification.

Belcan’s analysis of the bed system provided a FMEA for the company’s future use in determining failure problems and solved an intermittent failure problem of the bed foot support.
